Hello, hope you all had some fun Christmas and New Year festivities.
I've been to the Union and now have the forms we need to start a Society. This would be a good thing to set up as soon as possible. As I understand it Society status allows us to petition for funding, the potential use of Union facilities for fundraising nights and to book rooms for meetings.
We need at least ten signatures to get started. It might be short notice to meet as a full group before the first seminar, however if enough people are free one day next week it would be good to get the group up and running. I can't see it taking more than the time for a pint, or cup of tea.
If anyone can suggest a day/time/place to gather, please post them and we can decide whether it's worth meeting early or not. It would only make sense if ten or more can attend.

I can only meet more or less any time on Monday or Tuesday next week, as I'll be in France 'til Sunday after that. Feel free to forge my signature (on this occasion only) if you need it later in the week though!

Hi Kat, it looks like it will be next Monday before we can get this set up now. Thanks for making yourself available though.
If you could send me your full name, Uni registration number and an email address I can add you to the list when or if others come forward and perhaps it will be set up in time for your return. I do like the idea of becoming a master forger...
My email address is david.finnighan@strath.ac.uk
Hope you have a good trip!

Just a quick note to say the group has now been set up. It will be active as of next Thursday when the Union Senate (or whatever the hierarchy is called) next meet.
Claire and me have booked the Andersonian room (level 8) in the Union tomorrow from 11-1.
The hope is to take the time to further discuss ideas and assign roles and responsibilities for the individual teams. This is so we have a clear idea of what we will all be responsible for over the next couple of weeks.
This is understandably going to be too short notice for some people. We have also booked the same room from 1-2 for Monday the 4th so hopefully those who can't attend tomorrow will be able to come along then.

I think Jennifer (chief pencil engineer) will be in a class so I'd like to ask that someone there tomorrow take a register and minutes.

I think someone should take minutes, but a register seems unnecessary since it's not a compulsory meeting and some people probably can't make it due to classes/whatever else!

It's always handy to know who was there when things were discussed though - really it's just part of the minutes

I guess for extra meetings we can make sure that no major decisions are made as everyone won't be able to make the meetings because of classes etc. It's more just a time for a bit of extra discussion/brain-storming (or 'thought showering', I should say)

Don't think there is much need for a register at these meetings. People are preoccupied with other things and can't always make it, as long as they make the compulsory class then I think we can come and go a bit! Besides, only 5 people turned up today.... haha

yeah, i don't see very much point in taking a register at the Union meetings either - like David said it's not compulsory, and not everyone will be able to make the meetings at the same time, so what is discussed will just have to be reiterated to everyone at the actual classes anyway. plus there wasn't very many of us there today so we pretty much decided to end it early x
