Hi folks!
Most of you have sent in a first story and have had it returned with my feedback and/or Dave's, could you now send it back to me with any amendments so it can be added to my 'Final Submissions' folder. Me and Dave will go over them and once they have been approved we will send them over to the Design Team to be slotted into the pages.
Melissa should we send them to you?
Send your submissions to claire.alexander@hotmail.co.uk
I think it would be best to keep them all together this time as it got a wee bit messy before with people getting my e-mail address wrong or only sending their story to one of us.
If you sent me a story slightly after the first deadline, I'll have it back you this weekend so please make any adjustments and get it back to me to be approved and sent to Design.
That's all for now.
Claire

You have my final draft for 'relativity'.
Just let me know if you need me to tweak the other pieces I sent you.

That's okay. Will get my submissions back to you over the weekend. I actually have something else I was going to submit, but will I just send it after the draft? Needs a bit of tweaking and dot have time to do it just now.
Also... I've got the In Design program, but don't quite know how to work it yet so will probably get that sorted after the draft submission. Probably just put everything into a basic Word format and then save it as a PDF at the moment. I've got two really big essays at the moment (both due on the 19th) so don't think I'll be able to make anything super fancy at the moment. Will probably only be able to spend an afternoon on it next week. But it's just a draft copy so doesn't need to look like the finished product right now. Is that okay? I also think for the cover design at the moment we can just use the logo and we can develop it more after deadlines are out the way.
Does anyone have any suggestions for why should go on the front/back covers in terms of words?

(And sorry, didn't mean to write an essay there! If anyone from the design team has more time to put the draft together then give me a shout. Would be really helpful

Hi Claire,
I have sent you my second short story, 'Strange Encounters', for your and David's consideration - although I have yet to finalise my first 'Toxic Trail' story. I will try my very best to have this to you by next week.

I'm still waiting on hearing about mine, but I just got edits back from Tony so will be working on it (when I have a spare moment! Got so many essays to power through.)
This also might be a stupid question but do we have like a cut off date when we won't be sending in anything else etc?

I wonder how feasible it would be to ask if we can push the deadline forward a week and a bit. If people are still sending things in, and everyone has essays, do you think we could request to have till Monday the 22nd or something. I'd be able to work on the layout over that weekend once my essays (both worth 50% of my mark for 2 classes) are in. Just feeling a bit anxious about getting everything done all in the same week... and as it has never been an official deadline I wonder if Lucy might be a little bit more flexible with it?

I'll send Lucy an e-mail just now Melissa. I've used InDesign in the past so I can give you a hand with layout although I might be a bit rusty and I do that 'dad thing' where I'd take over the mouse until I got to grips with it again.
As far as the deadline is concerned... It was 30th March.
Would it be fair then to say that I'll edit what's in my inbox and only if we're short when we compile the draft will I look at more? (I have 2 exams this month and 4 next.)

Oh right I thought the 30th was the submission date for the 2nd submission but not THE last submission date. Oh well whoops xD

I don't know... sorry, I'm a bit our of sorts this weekend and perhaps that was a bit harsh. There's a chance we'll need more stories anyway. I've only had a handful of folks' first submissions back after me and Dave sent out feedback so it would be good to start seeing amended versions of these.

I'll send you my amended story as soon as I get a chance to work on it, hopefully have it to you by the middle of the week. Think mine only needs a couple of wee changes anyway, so shouldn't take me long!

I've sent you (as you know) all 3 of my submissions, and won't be sending in any more (just to keep you right, one less person to worry about) x

This is Lucy's response to my request to have the draft submission pushed back:
'the reason I wanted it by the end of week twelve is so that I could mark the reflective essays alongside this. I have set aside the 15th - 18th for marking these before I go off on annual leave on the 19th (and not back until the 30th). In other words if I gave you extra time for this I wouldn't be able to return the reflective essays within the required three week time frame. If the whole class is in agreement then I am happy to ask the HaSS office whether I could return the essays within a four week time frame, and I will mark them on my return. In other words you could then have until 29th April for a draft of the journal, and I would aim to get the essays back by 3rd May. If the class want their essays back sooner, then I would need a draft of wherever you have got to with the journal by the end of play on Sunday 14th April.'
What are your thoughts?
Claire

I personally have no problem with having my reflective piece returned to me for 3rd May . If it means easing the pressure a little, and giving the chief editors more time to compose a polished draft of the journal, then i think asking Lucy to postpone the deadline is our best option!
