Something simple (yet hopefully effective!) to start with sounds good. March would probably be a good time to do a bigger event, and it certainly helps that we've already been offered a venue. Would just need to act relatively fast (as fast as we can pull something together anyway) and pick a date before they fill up. If we go down the band route, I'm sure we'll know enough bands between us (at least me, you, and Callum probably will, not sure about other folk). Also, my friend organised a charity gig recently where he had to bring bands together, I'm sure he'd be happy to help contact a few if need be.

I think starting out with something small sounds like the best option!
That way we can make a bit of money to begin with and then go for a full on event later. Though we'll need to work out what finances we actually need (for printing, etc) before deciding what's best to go with in terms of bringing in money.

Hi guys, sorry to do this but I won't be taking this class anymore. I've spoken to the union about managing your funds. As you are a society your best bet for managing all the money you raise is through the union, just go to level 7 and they'll help you! As we've discussed, Kat's pretty much secured Broadcast as an event for a band night in March, and I know quite a few people who would play so let me know! Sorry to back out this late on, I'll help with events if you need for the next week or so.

Oh dear!! lol. Sorry to see you go Caitlin.
This may prove an issue lol. Is anybody willing to take over as Fundraising Chieftan? Rachel? Obviously you will need some new team members, but would you be willing to be in charge?
And is there anyone else who would do Fundraising?Still unsure whether Laura was cool with being in that team since she's not been in, anyone know? Think it's important that we get a new team sorted out since we were planning on having an event pretty soon, it's a bit much for Rachel to do on her own!

We'll definitely need some people to move to Fundraising now. Can't have Rachel doing it all on her own.
Will discuss it on Thursday, I'll put it on the agenda.

Caitlin, that's such a shame that we'll be losing you At least, we've got something to start with though thanks to your effort thus far. Along the lines of Michelle's idea for dressing as a book, I think something in that style (maybe not exactly that) is not quite as implausible as it sounds. Myself and some other friends who wear 'lolita' (think less Nabokov, more Harajuku) had a week long fundraiser in Glasgow two years ago where we dressed up in our finest and paraded around Glasgow handing out leaflets, giving the good ol' cheerleading chants and offering to pose in photographs with the public. We ended up making about £400 - £500 altogether for breast cancer without putting much effort in (we were lucky to have the beautiful summer weather though). Anything that is fun for the public is a huge boost and always affects the cash inflow. I think coming up with some original ideas for fundraising that might stick out alongside doing the pub nights, etc would be a good idea. Maybe another general brainstorm for some more fundraising ideas soon would be a shout? Just a suggestion mind, so feel free to dismiss!

Summary of what our team will be working on over the next few months
Alumni Fund criteria to consider - benefits a significant number of students - aligns with uni strategy - enhances the student and international experience - future planning, success and sustainability - applicants sought alternative funding - able to promote alumni fund
Events Band/DJ night x2 - Aiming to have the first one in early march at Broadcast
Pre-Launch Coffee Morning/Afternoon Tea - a last ditch fundraising attempt hocking cakes, bullying folk into buying raffle tickets etc and generally promoting and networking the journal
Launch event - fundraising done this is a night just for us - some readings some booze and a celebration of all we've achieved - hopefully promoting this event on itison if we have suitable funds
Networking We think it's important that the people most likely to buy flux get talking about it as soon as possible. We're hopefully going to do this by going to poetry readings and writers groups etc. and hopefully get the buzz going, and there'll be plenty of folk to invite to the launch.
Publicity Hopefully getting articles in The Skinny, Glaswegian, The List etc. Radio exposure would be great too. We'll also have access to our journals social networking sites to get the buzz going to.
Our goals for next week are: Draft blagging e-mail for raffle prizes Talk to venue/potential acts for March event Think about 'Flux' phrases Compile a list of poetry readings etc.

What was the Joan Crawford one that I liked? Either you had one, or it was just my wishful thinking...

Folks, I'm not going to make the class tomorrow unfortunately, but I just wanted to mention that I emailed Rachel about possible Broadcast dates. Rachel, it would be good if you mention this to the group tomorrow if there's time, or we can just discuss it on here - just so we can make progression sooner rather than later. We need to decide on a date and our overall plan for the night.

Thanks for the help with Broadcast kathleen. I responded to your email but will chat to the group if I get the chance tomorrow. Dean, what kind of music do you play? Would it fit in with the indie/rock vibe of the bands for the event?

Give a flying flux (accompanied by a cartoon of our journal in underpants flying through the air)

I think "Get yourself to Flux" would be ideal for event posters.

Same. I think 'Don't flux wi' us' and 'Flux off!' might give the wrong vibe

I know, Flux off/it weren't my favourites either.
Joan Crawford, 'Don't flux with me fellas. This cowgirl has been to the rodeo before.'
Also liked Patti Smith, 'I don't flux much with the past but I flux plenty with the future.'
